Linux Orbit – Features: GNOME Office, how far along are we?

Number of Linux Distributions Surpasses Number of Users
“We’ve been expecting it for some time,” Merrill Lynch technology analyst Tom Shayes said, “but this is a little sooner than most expected. We’ve seen explosive growth in the number of Linux distributions, in fact my nephew just put out Little Tommy Linux 1.1 last week.”
Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer said, “Microsoft will have to play catch up with the number of versions that Linux has, but we think we can do it. With the break up of Microsoft imminent that will instantly double the number of Windows versions available.” Click link for full story…
Pocket Linux Another one to try. I’m averaging about 2 OS’s a week to test now. Not bad.
Linux-Mandrake 7.1 is a rpm-based Linux Distribtion. It excels at usability, simplicity, features thoroughly preconfigured KDE and GNOME desktops and includes cool tools like supermount. Unlike former versions, Mandrake is not a tuned-up RedHat anymore, but a very mature Linux distribution on its own.
I download PhatLinux yesterday morning. Its a big download around 185 megs. I installed it during my lunch
break. Its a version of Linux that runs of a Windows partition so there was nothing to it. Unziped it into the folder it wanted. Ran the batch file and boom. it was up and going. X-windows didn’t have a card to match mine nVida TNT2, but no worries, i reconfigured the xwindows setup and was running it with no problems. It uses the KDE window manager, which is very easy to use. Looked good ran good. So if you have been wanting to use linux but have been afraid of re-partioning you drives or if you work in a Windows environment and want a copy of linux around “just in case” then i recommend you trying this.
Another version that will run under Win32. I’ve never tried one of these before but after my success with the BeOS Personal that does the same thing
I may give it a try as well.
SuperLinux — Highly compact network system with embedded Linux.
