Back Up

Looks like the site is finally back working correctly. Seem like the mySQL server has been down all day long. My host has always been pretty good, fast and helpful. But the last few months its not been that way, I’m sure that its just cut backs like everyone else to few people, to much work. I understand that. Sorry for the down time. i actually wrote up a big kick ass entry but, thats at work oh well..

Win2k SP3

The Register picked up on these 2 important paragraphs from the SP3 License:

“By using these features, you explicitly authorize Microsoft or its designated agent to access and utilize the necessary information for updating purposes. Microsoft may use this information solely to improve our products or to provide customized services or technologies to you. Microsoft may disclose this information to others, but not in a form that personally identifies you.

“* The OS Product or OS Components contain components that enable and facilitate the use of certain Internet-based services. You acknowledge and agree that Microsoft may automatically check the version of the OS Product and/or its components that you are utilizing and may provide upgrades or fixes to the OS Product that will be automatically downloaded to your computer.”

Now do you really want to install it? I did on one of my tests machines, but it will be reimaged tomorrow anyway. I’m guess that many of you want. Just another reason to hate MS.

Just Like You

Has anybody else noticed the new Just Like You service at I hit it almost daily looking for my gold box and such and just noticed that. Whats really odd is that Camille and I both use the same account there so its like a split personality and it matches up with other people, perhaps they do the same thing we do. Anyway its interesting to look at.

New Good Stuff

It looks like Mandrake Beta 3 has started showing up on mirrors. No official announcement yet but check you local mirrors, i’m downloading the 3 fresh disk now, just in time for a weekend install.

FreeBSD 4.6.2 has also been released today. “we have resolved several ATA-related problems, updated the system OpenSSL and OpenSSH components, and addressed several security issues.”

GCC 3.2 Released

More Stuff:
MyHeadlines 4.0.7
Cool Linux CD 1.30a

IT Stuff

Its been quite the busy morning here. I come in a few minutes late , due to traffic. I’m pulled directly into a meeting about IT projects, with a list for the whole company. Several of the projects don’t effect me they are for the AS400 inventory systems that i don’t work on, but there were several of my projects that were not on the list. When i brought this up, well, they are “unofficial”, as in they don’t want anybody to know that they are being done. Thats all fine and good, but means that my list looks like i don’t have much work coming up. So I’ve been drumming up some “official” work all morning, i sent out a handful of who needs some Lotus Notes development done, 2 hours later, my schedule is full again :).

I finished setting up the new linux file server yesterday just waiting for the list of users, shares and permissions to be finished. When I installed the server i made sure is set it us as an SSH server and made sure the VNC server software was loaded. Testing it out this morning i SSHed into it and started a VNC session then connected with the VNCviewer for Win2K from ATT, works like a charm. So off comes the monitor, keyboard and mouse, gotta love that.
